Traumatic Tooth Treatment
Teeth may become injured with any type of trauma to the mouth and require immediate treatment. There are many different types of injuries to teeth and the most important factor in successful treatment is early recognition and treatment. Our board-certified endodontist recommends traumatic tooth treatment to anyone that has experienced the following:
- Cracked teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Dislodged or displaced teeth
- Avulsed or knocked out teeth
- Root fractures
Dislodged Teeth
If your tooth has been dislodged or displaced, but is still held within the socket, immediate repositioning is key. Please call or visit us at AVOS Dental Specialists to reposition the tooth to its proper alignment and initiate root canal therapy, if necessary.
Avulsed Teeth
If your tooth has been avulsed, or completely knocked out of the mouth, the tooth should be placed back into the socket. If you are unable to replace the tooth, then you should store it in Hank’s balanced salt solution (HBSS) or milk. After placing the tooth in milk or HBSS, call or visit us at AVOS Dental Specialists to have the tooth placed back into its natural position.
