The First
24-48 Hours

Immediately following your surgery, it’s common to experience minor bleeding, swelling, and bruising. To ensure your comfort and promote optimal healing, here are important guidelines to follow:

DON'T

Use a straw, spit forcefully, or rinse your mouth vigorously

Consume hot, spicy, crunchy, or citrusy foods

Engage in strenuous exercise, smoke, or consume alcohol

Floss or brush near the surgical site, including electric toothbrushes

Touch the surgical area with your fingers or tongue

Pull or manipulate your lip to inspect the surgical site

INSTEAD

Drink liquids and eat foods at room temperature

Apply gentle pressure to your gums using gauze, a tea bag, or a clean cloth to control any bleeding

Use ice packs on the outside of your face for 20 minutes on, 10 minutes off, during the first 24 hours to reduce swelling and discomfort

After 24 hours, consider applying warm, moist heat to your face as needed for swelling

Your comfort is our priority. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. We’re here to support you throughout your recovery process!

Food guidelines post-surgery

After your dental surgery, it’s crucial to be cautious with your diet to avoid accidentally biting or burning yourself while the local anesthetic wears off. Here’s what you should know:

For the first 24 hours:

Stick to a nutritious liquid diet. Opt for smoothies, soups, and broths to keep you nourished and satisfied.

After the initial 24 hours:

Introduce soft, non-abrasive foods such as mashed potatoes, pasta, cottage cheese, and scrambled eggs. These foods can be easily consumed with a fork and should be your main choices for the first week.

Until your follow-up appointment:

Avoid chewing on the treated side of your mouth to aid in proper healing and ensure your comfort.

We’ll guide transitioning back to your regular diet during your follow-up visit. Your well-being and recovery are our top priorities!
